Equine Veterinary Technician/Assistant Position

We are seeking a motivated, reliable, and skilled Equine Veterinary Assistant or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our growing equine practice. The ideal candidate possesses strong horse-handling skills; a solid work ethic that aligns with our practice culture; a desire to provide outstanding support to our veterinarians, team, & clients; and an eagerness to learn and grow with us. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Horse Handling – Safely and confidently handle and restrain a variety of horses for exams and procedures. Must be able to lunge a horse at walk, trot, and canter, and able to jog a horse in-hand for exams.
  • Assist veterinarians in the field and at in-clinic appointments: ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are on the truck each day; frequent loading/unloading of equipment; assist with digital radiograph, ultrasound, endoscopy, procedures; and maintain cleanliness at appointments. 
  • Driving - safely operate practice vehicles in all weather to navigate to farm calls in a timely manner; maintain a clean vehicle. 
  • Lab Work - Process diagnostic samples (blood, manure) and required paperwork for shipping to specified laboratories. 
  • Inventory Management – Prepare patient prescriptions and assist in keeping the vehicles and pharmacy fully stocked and organized. 
  • Client Communication – Professionally communicate with clients in person and on the phone. Assist with follow-up communication. Create invoices and process payments. 
  • Ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness/biosecurity, and equipment care. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Confident horsemanship skills, with minimum of 5 years horse experience. 
  • Driving record: must possess a valid US driver license. 
  • Able to lift 50+ pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to spend extended periods of time on your feet or driving. 
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail and organization, and a proactive positive attitude. 
  • Ability to work effectively as a team and independently.
  • Comfort with computers and technology (Google Chat and Office). Experience with DaySmart Vet PIMS experience is a plus.  
  • Prior experience in equine practice or other type of veterinary practice preferred but not required. 
  • Education: high school diploma +/- LVT license
