Dr. Allen founded Allen Equine Veterinary Services (AEVS) in 2019 to share her passion and knowledge of horses and their veterinary care. Dr. Allen’s training as a dressage rider overlaps with her expertise in equine lameness, acupuncture, and chiropractic to provide a unique and valuable perspective to the care of the horse.
Dr. Allen grew up in Williamston, Michigan, admiring horses for as long as she can remember. She was a founding member of the Rose Lake Pony Club and spent several years competing in dressage, low level eventing, and games during her childhood. She always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian some day. Dr. Allen graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and completed an internship in equine medicine, lameness, and surgery at the Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital. There she focused on lameness and performance medicine as well as critical care and internal medicine. In 2013, she received her certification in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT, also referred to as animal chiropractic) from the Healing Oasis Wellness Center. Dr. Allen is also certified in Veterinary Acupuncture from the Chi Institute, including training in Chinese Herbal Medicine. She places a strong emphasis on education – for herself and for AEVS clients. Sharing knowledge with our clients is an important aspect of being a veterinarian, as we all work toward the common goal: better care for the horse.
One of Michelle’s passions is the art of dressage, in part because of its many applications to other equestrian sports and its emphasis on equine/rider biomechanics. Dr. Allen is an active rider and participates in USDF shows every year. She loves cheering on her clients and genuinely appreciates their support of her in return!
Of course, she couldn’t do any of this without her dedicated husband, Jordan, who has been with her through it all since 2007. Many thanks to her wonderful partner in life!
Dr. Ashcraft is a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. She graduated from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Her passion for equine performance led her to complete a post-graduate internship at Tennessee Equine Hospital to gain additional knowledge and training in equine medicine and lameness. Dr. Ashcraft is certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulation (Chiropractic) through the Healing Oasis Wellness Center and Veterinary Acupuncture for both horses and small animals through the Chi Institute.
Dr. Ashcraft is a talented and compassionate veterinarian who is a great asset to our team. In addition to providing excellent equine care, Dr. Ashcraft also provides chiropractic and acupuncture for dogs and cats at our office location at Milestone Farm in Kalamazoo.
Outside of work, she enjoys pursuing her goals in the hunter/jumper ring with her horse, Arrow, as well as spending time with her husband, Barry, who is active duty military, and their dog Charlie.
